Sighisoara, situated in Romania's
center-in Transylvania province, is wellknown for its architecture
datingback from the 14th century. The first mention was under the
name "Castrum Sex" in 1280. Named since the 19th century "the Pearl
of Transylvania", the Sighisoara fortress is situated on both banks
of Tarnava Mare river, in south of Mures county, on the Citadel
Hill. You have to walk up from the city (36.000 inhabitants) to
the medieval citadel and enter through the 60-metre-tall clock tower
(built in 1360).
The ocher-colored house named "Casa Vlad Dracul",
where the father of Vlad Tepes, better known as Dracula, once lived,
now is a cozy restaurant. You can find inside Gothic- style furniture
and serve good soups and traditional Romanian dishes. The covered
stairs with 176 steps were made in the 17th century. The museums
- Church on the Hill (14th century) and the Monastery Church (15th
century), both built in the Gothic style are attractions for numerous
tourists.
