Hunting in Romania

The Romanian Hunting Potential:

Ø Romania is a country with rich biodiversity and a high percentage of intact natural ecosystems. Here is found the largest area of undisturbed forests in Europe. The high level of ecosystem diversity and the geographical location are reflected in the floral diversity that includes more than 3,500 species and a faunal diversity estimated to be more than 30,000 species.
Ø Over 1/3 from the number of mammals from entire Europe are placed in Romania, especially in the Carpathians and in the Danube Delta.
Ø The biggest skull and fur trophies worldwide were harvested in Romania. The fur trophy world record has 687.79 CIC points and was harvested in 19B3; the world record for skull trophy has 69.47 points and was harvested in 1994. The ten most valuable brown bear furs and the five biggest skulls worldwide came from Romania.
Ø In Romania, mountains, hills and plains with their specific ecosystems, cover almost equal surfaces.
Ø The natural integrity of forest ecosystems is indicated by the presence of the full range of European forest fauna. Species that went extinct in other parts of Europe are still roaming the Romanian forests and in hunting areas from Romania strong and viable populations of game species can still be found.
Ø The minimum size of hunting areas is 5,000 ha in the plains, 7,000 ha in the hills and 10,000 ha in the mountains. The hunting areas are often grouped together in larger units in order to achieve a sustainable management of game species. The game species are specific for each ecosystem: from water birds in the wetlands to the chamois in the alpine zone.
Ø You can find here hares, pheasants, roe deer, wild boar, red deer, bears and others; virtually the entire range of game species of the temperate area. Maintaining the natural sex ratio and the right structure of age classes allows reproduction only for the strongest animals, providing heritage of the valuable genes. The game is strong and wild, carrying impressive trophies due to the natural selection, competition, predators and ecological conditions.
