Satu Mare city is the capital of Satu Mare county, northwestern Romania. It lies on the Somes River, 8 miles (13 km) from the Hungarian border and 17 miles (27 km) from the Ukrainian border.
Tourist objectives:
County Museum
Located on Vasile Lucaciu Avenue, the county museum offers an interesting collection representing the evolution of civilization in the Satu Mare area. Here you can learn more about the folk art, the ancient Dacian period, the World War II and the local life.

Art Museum
Building built up in the second half of nineteenth century, in a neo gothic style, bought in 1798 and modified then by Vacsey baron, known also as “Vecsey House”, accommodates now the art workshop of the County Museum. This workshop offers to visitors plastic art pieces from XX century. You will find here operas of some artists as: Henri Catargi, Dumitru Ghiata, Corneliu Baba, Vida Geza, and others, together with local artists as: Aurel Popp and Carol Erdos.

North Theatre
Is functional in a neoclassic style, construction built in 1889.The show room has 800 places and it’s decorated in adornment with that age specific head kerchief. Voijta Adolf and Szikasay were the architects and Spanraft and Hirsch made inside decorations and frescos.
Roman Catholic Cathedral
Built between 1786-1798 in a neo-classical style, it has a monumental doorway, with an attic gable sustained by six columns with Corinthian column heads. Above the gable there are three statues on columns – mounted, representing the Peter and Paul apostles, which relieves Jesus. The second aisle with dome and the two towers were build between 1827-1837 under the coordination of Bishop Ham Janos and the architect Hild Iosif. The main altar was realized with Carrara marble. In 1925 was built the organ with 4122 pipes and 57 registers. Inside the external wall of the aisle in two alcoves there are placed two statues representing the saints Ladislau and Stefan.

Art collection on Roman – Catholic Cathedral
In the old vestry of Roman – Catholic Cathedral there is the collection initiated by the Bishop Meszeleny Iuliu (1887 – 1905) which contains over 100 paintings and few tens decorative art objects. “Virgin Mary with her child” (18th century, by orthodox persuasion, locked up in silver), “Madonna with her child” (1725, painted by Stancovic Martinus), “Saint Mary”, the paintings ” Ecce homo” (Italian school of 18th century), “God’s mother fallen asleep” (by Tobias Lubech a copy after Luca Giordano’s work from 18th century) can be here admired.
