Voronet Monastery

Day
1: Arrival on Bucharest International Airport. Transfer to Sibiu,
via Pitesti. Short break at Horezu for visit the pottery masters from
this village and the monastery built in Brancovan style. Crossing the
mountains through the Olt straight (narrow pass), one can admire the Cozia
monastery and the stateliness of the nature. Drive forward to Sibiel.
Dinner and accommodation at 2-3* guest-houses in Sibiel.
Day
2: Sibiel. Breakfast in guest houses. Walking through the village.
Visit the Glass Icons Museum in Sibiel, unique in Europe. Lunch in the
guest houses with traditional Romanian food products. In the afternoon,
visit the ASTRA Museum of Romanian Traditional Folk Civilisation near
Sibiu, in Dumbrava Park, where one can see the traditional occupations
of the village inhabitants from all over the country and their specific
buildings. Festive dinner at the shepfold. Accommodation at 2-3* guest-houses
in Sibiel.
Day
3: Departure from Sibiel to Sapanta. In our way, we take two
breaks in Cluj Napoca and Baia Mare for short sightseeing tours of the
cities and for lunch in Cluj Napoca. Following the Mara Valley, enter
in the famous land of Maramures. All around, one can see woodcrafts, wooden
churches, gates.
Dinner and accommodation in Maramures at 2-3* guest-houses.

Sucevita Monastery

Day
4: Breakfast in guest houses. Departure to Sapanta. Visit the
Merry Cemetery, handicraft jewelry, unique in the world. Creation of the
craftsman Stan Patras, the wooden crosses sculptured and painted make
an authentic open-air museum. The village of Sapanta also excells in other
specific handicrafts: wool bed spreads, towels, small purses and many
more. Lunch in Sighetul Marmatiei.
Drive on through Iza Valley, where one can admire the wood civilisation
of Maramures: the highests wooden buildings from Europe (the churches
of Barsana – 62 metters and Surdesti – 54 metters, unique
in the world through their forms and adornment specific to the Romanian
style), the wooden carved gates, real testimonies of wood sculpture; skillfully
carved, their ornament is the traditional sign of Maramures: the sun,
symbol of life. The most beautiful gates are in the villages of Sapanta,
Vadu Izei, Desesti, Ieud, Botiza etc.
Dinner in Botiza village with a lot of „horinca” (traditional
Romanian strong alcoholic beverage - about 70°!) and accommodation
at 2-3* guest-houses.
Day
5: Botiza. Breakfast. Walking through the village with waggon
or sledge (depending on the season) carried by the horses. Drive forward
to Marginea. On the way, visit the Vatra Moldovitei Monastery, UNESCO
monument, with outdoor frescoes. Lunch in Sucevita in 4* Bucovina Restaurant.
Visit the black pottery masters’ workshop in Marginea. Pottery show.
Visit the Sucevita Monastery, UNESCO monument, outdoor frescoes. Dinner
and accommodation at 3* Villa in Sucevita village.
Day
6: Sucevita. Breakfast. Departure to Voronet. Visit the Voronet
monastery, blue outdoor frescoes, UNESCO monument, surnamed „The
Sistine Chapel of the East”. Drive on to Talpesti (near Tg. Neamt),
where you’ll meet one of the most famous craftman in Romania –
Nicolae Popa and his museum of handicrafts which is extended on 4 houses.
Lunch in Neamt area. Continue our route to Bicaz. Walking through the
Bicaz gorges, the most impressive gorges in Romania, one can admire the
wilderness of the nature in the same time with some great Romanian handicrafts
in open-air exhibitons right into the gorges. Passing through the Lacu
Rosu resort, we continue our route to Praid village.
Festive dinner in the salt-mine of Praid with folk singers and dancers.
Accommodation at 2* guest-houses in Praid.

Day
7: Praid. Breakfast in guest houses. Departure to Corund where
one can admire an open-air pottery and handicrafts exhibition. Visit the
Prejmer fortified church and museum. Short sightseeing tour of Brasov
mediaeval fortress, including the Black Church and the St. Nicholas Church
with the museums of „the first Romanian school”, „the
Junii rithual” and „the first Romanian printing house - Coresi”.
Festive lunch in Poiana Brasov, at „The Outlaws Hut”.
Drive on to Sinaia where one can visit the Peles Castle, the most important
neo-Renaissance building in Romania, ex-summer residence of the king Carol
I of Romania. Drive forward to Bran narrow pass, from where one can admire
the beautiful scenery of Bucegi and Piatra Craiului mountains.
Dinner and accommodation in Bran area at 3* guest houses („Bran”
villa or similar).
Day
8: Breakfast. Transfer to the International Airport Bucharest
Otopeni for your flight home.
